Invokana is used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It works by stopping the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose and causes more glucose to be excreted in urine which helps to lower blood sugar levels over time. This medication should be used along with a diet and exercise program. Invokana cannot be used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis or to lower blood sugar in emergency situation.
Invokana Side Effects:
Invokana may cause ketoacidosis in rare occasions. Get medical attention immediately if you experience nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, unusual fatigue, fruity breath or difficulty breathing. Other serious side effects include yeast infections, dehydration, irregular heartbeat, weakness or tingling sensation in the arms or legs, and urine that is pink, red, dark or cloudy. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any severe side effects. Other more common side effects include increased thirst, frequent urination and constipation. If these side effects are persistent, tell your doctor.
