Amrix is used in combination with rest physical therapy to treat the pain and stiffness associated with certain kinds of injuries, including sprains, strains, and other musculoskeletal injury. It works by interfering with the pain signals (nerve impulses) sent to the brain.
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, trouble concentrating, blurred vision, altered sense of taste, dry mouth, upset stomach, and constipation. However, some side effects are severe and require immediate medical assistance. These include: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in the face and lips, swelling in the tongue and throat), hallucinations, overactive reflexes, tremors, unusual agitation, severe drowsiness, loss of coordination, fever, fainting, fast heart rate, fluttering in your chest, pounding heart beats, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea.
Although a generic for Amrix -- cyclobenzaprine -- is not always available, there are some other brand names: Flexeril, Fexmid, and Comfort Pac with Cyclobenzaprine.
