This medication is a combination drug used to treat but not prevent cold sores that develop on the lips and around the mouth due to herpes. It shouldn't be ingested or used on soft membranes like the inside of your mouth, in your nose, or in your eyes. It contains hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid that treats inflammation) and acyclovir (an antiviral that slows the infection so the body can fight it naturally).

Common side effects include dry or flaky skin, redness or discoloration of the skin around your mouth, a mild burning or tingling sensation when you apply the medication, or a bitter taste in your mouth just after you apply the medication.
