Quillivant XR is a central nervous system stimulant (CNSS) that reduces hyperactivity and increases impulse control by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain. As an oral suspension, this medication needs to be shaken before measuring the dose to ensure the right amount of the active ingredient is received. As an extended release medication, it must be taken only once per day.
This medication may affect growth in children. Tell your doctor if you feel your child is not growing at a normal rate. Common side effects include insomnia, feeling nervous or irritable, headache, loss of appetite, and mild nausea or stomach ache. Some side effects may be severe and require immediate medical attention, including: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat), new behavior problems including aggression or paranoia, hallucinations (either visual or auditory or both), seizure, muscle tics, skin discoloration in the fingers or toes (red, pale, or blue), changes in vision, numbness or feeling cold, chest pain especially with breathing trouble, feeling as though you may pass out, unexplained muscle pain or weakness especially with fever or unusual tiredness and dark urine), priapism, and unexplained wounds or bleeding.
