Ilevro, or nepafenac, is an ophthalmic solution used to treat certain post-operative symptoms of cataract surgery, including swelling, redness, and eye pain. It is usually prescribed to be used starting 1 day before surgery and for 2 weeks following surgery. This medication can be used in conjunction with other ophthalmic solutions as determined by your doctor, but they should be applied 5 minutes before or after you use Ilevro.
Some side effects can be severe and require medical attention, including: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, chest tightness, hives with itching, swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat), dizziness, changes in vision, itchiness of the eye, eye pain or swelling, or bleeding from the eye. Common side effects are headache, nausea and vomiting, sinus inflammation, increased light sensitivity, increased tear production, the sensation of having something in your eye, eye lid crustiness, and a sticky sensation in the eye.
At this time, there are no generics available. However, Nevanac is another prescription medication similar to Ilevro.
