This medication is an anti-inflammatory agent that suppresses a natural substance in the body which is responsible for swelling and sores in the anus and large intestines, diarrhea, and tissue damage associated with ulcerative colitis. It is used to treat, prevent, and improve these symptoms. Never cut, chew, break, or otherwise open your Apriso capsules, as this will negatively affect how your body absorbs your medication.

Apriso Side Effects:
Common side effects include flu-like symptoms, back and joint pain, dizziness, weak feeling, mild stomach discomfort or gassy feeling, vomiting, constipation, or mild diarrhea. Some side effects are severe and require immediate medical attention. These include: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat), itching, fever, headache, skin rash, jaundice, rapid weight gain or swelling, shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, loss of appetite, severe stomach pain or cramping (especially in the upper stomach), nausea, vomiting blood or what looks like coffee grounds, dark urine, difficulty urinating or inability to urinate, clay-colored stool, bloody or tarry stool, and bloody diarrhea.
