  Niaspan Uses

Niaspan is used for:
Treating and preventing low levels of niacin. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. This medicine is a water soluble B-complex vitamin. It works by supplementing your diet if you do not consume enough niacin from foods.

  How to use Niaspan

How to use Niaspan:

- Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take this medicine by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.
- If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
- Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use this medicine.

  Possible Side Effects of Niaspan

Possible side effects of Niaspan:

- All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects.
- Stomach upset; temporary skin redness, tingling or feelings of warmth (flushing)
- Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry, or bloody stools; changes in vision; cloudy or blurred vision; decrease in urine or dark-colored urine; fast or irregular heartbeat; flu-like symptoms (nausea, vomiting, "not well" feeling); irregular heartbeat; loss of appetite; muscle weakness, swelling, tenderness, or pain; numbness or persistent tingling of the skin; swelling of the hands, legs, or feet; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
