Donnatal is a combination of belladonna alkaloid and phenobarbital which is used to treat symptoms associated with IBS, a spastic colon, or ulcers in the intestines. It works by limiting the secretion of stomach fluids (e.g., acid) and decreasing gastrointestinal motion.
Donnatal Side Effects:
Some side effects are severe and require medical attention, including: mouth sores, red or bleeding gums, severe dizziness, seeing halos around lights, eye pain with blurred vision, diarrhea, painful urination, fast or pounding heartbeats. Common mild side effects only need medical attention if they get worse. These can include restlessness, unusual excitement, loss of interest in sex, insomnia, drowsiness or dizziness, headache, weakness, increased sensitivity to light, mildly blurred vision, dry mouth or the decreased ability to taste, unusually decreased sweating, decrease in urination, nausea and vomiting, bloating, constipation, impotence, or difficulty achieving orgasm.
