CombiPatch is a transdermal hormone replacement therapy that uses estradiol (an estrogen) and norethindrone (a progestin) to treat symptoms of menopause, including vaginal burning/itching and dryness as well as hot flashes. In some cases it may be prescribed to treat pre-menopausal women who suffer from diseases and disorders that reduce the amount of estrogen produced by the body.
Common side effects include vaginal itching and discharge, spotting, breast pain, bloating and stomach cramps, headache, mild nausea and vomiting, and redness and mild irritation where the patch is worn. Some side effects can be very severe and require immediate medical attention, including: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat), unusual thoughts or behavior, confusion, depression, unusual tired feeling, problems with vision or speech, loss of or problems with balance, sweating, jaundice, sudden numbness or weakness, chest pain or pressure especially spreading to your jaw or shoulder, sudden and severe headache, rapid breathing or wheezing, sudden cough, breast lump, coughing up blood, loss of appetite, upper stomach pain, pain and swelling with warmth and redness in one or both legs, unusual and/or heavy vaginal bleeding, dark urine, or clay-colored stool.
As a combination estradiol hormone therapy, there are many options for both generics and brands. However, there is not a specific generic equivalnet for estradiol norethindrone, and there aren't other brands competing with CombiPatch.
