This is an oral retinoid, which is a form of Vitamin A that slows the production of certain oils in the glands in your skin as well as helps the body heal itself more quickly. It is used to treat certain forms of severe acne, namely cystic acne, or severe recalcitrant nodular acne.

Common side effects only need medical attention if they worsen. These include nervousness, feeling dizzy or drowsy, back pain, mild joint pain, skin rash with itching, changes in the thickness of skin and strength of your fingernails and toenails, and dry and peeling skin, including on the lips and nose.
However some side effects are severe and require immediate emergency medical attention. These include: allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat), seizure, hallucinations, changes in behavior, suicidal ideation, depression, unusual aggression, crying spells, difficulty concentrating, jaundice, flu-like symptoms (fever with chills, body aches), easy bruising or bleeding especially with purple spots under the skin, red skin rash with severe blistering and peeling, hearing problems including ringing in your ears or hearing loss, vision problems including blurred vision, sudden and severe headache/pain behind the eyes with or without vomiting, joint stiffness, unusual bone pain or fracture, sudden numbness or weakness especially on one side of the body, fast heart rate, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, severe upper stomach pain that spreads to your back, dark urine, rectal bleeding, severe diarrhea, clay-colored or tarry stool, bloody stool.
