While Osphena is not estrogen, it is an estrogen agonist which supplements a woman's depleting estrogen due to menopause in order to treat painful intercourse due to vaginal and vulvar atrophy. It is taken as 1 tablet by mouth every day with food for a short period of time. Do not take this medication for longer than instructed.

Osphena Side Effects:
Taking Osphena increases your risk of a pre-cancerous condition called endometrial hyperplasia. Tell your doctor if you experience any abnormal or severe vaginal bleeding. Other severe side effects may require immediate medical attention. These include: hives, swelling in your face or lips, swelling in your tongue or throat, pain or swelling in one or both legs especially with redness or warmth, sudden weakness especially on one side of the body, sudden and severe headache, problems with balance or coordination, vision problems, slurred speech, difficulty breathing, sudden cough, coughing up blood, wheezing or rapid breathing, chest pain. Common side effects include muscle spasms, hot flashes or increased sweating, and vaginal discharge.
